Risk Assessed Plant Registration & Machinery Risk Assessments
Under BC's Power Engineers, Boiler, Pressure Vessel and Refrigeration Safety Regulation, eligible plants can register as a Risk Assessed Status Plant — allowing reduced on-site power engineer supervision instead of continuous supervision. Qualifying for this status requires meeting specific administrative and technical specifications and passing a TSBC audit inspection. What Is a Risk Assessed Status Plant?

A Risk Assessed Status Plant is a plant registered with Technical Safety BC that operates under reduced on-site supervision rather than continuous supervision, provided it meets eligibility criteria and passes a technical review and audit inspection. Eligible plant types include:

- Fluid heating or low pressure thermal fluid plants (up to 500 m² boiler capacity)
- Low temperature, low pressure fluid plants (up to 2,000 m² boiler capacity)
- Unfired plants (up to 1,000 m² boiler capacity)
- Refrigeration plants (up to 1,000 kW prime mover nameplate rating)
- Other plants meeting specifications issued by the provincial safety manager

A plant approved for risk assessed status must still have a qualified power engineer on-site a minimum number of hours per day, inspecting the plant per TSBC's technical and administrative specifications.
